Dogs have always featured strongly in my life. I grew up with dogs as pets, and throughout my adult life, I have owned and have experience of many different breeds, including rescue dogs. It has become clear to me that our lives are enriched by the companionship of our pets; the saying  ‘dog is a man’s best friend’ has been well proven.

I resigned as an Assistant Head at a secondary school to retrain as a dog behaviour specialist and pursue my dream of opening my own business working with dogs and their owners. In addition to my dog walking, dog listening and boarding business, I am keen to take my work into schools. Throughout my teaching career, I have been interested in the emotional health and wellbeing of young people.

I believe that, based on a relationship of mutual respect, the unconditional love that dogs give us could also help young people with mental health, anxiety and confidence issues. I intend to develop this business to combine my love of working with children and dogs on a therapeutic basis.  Watch this space for more details!

I pride myself on being organised, approachable and having an enthusiastic and positive approach to life. I am fully committed to helping clients to look after their pets whilst also guiding and enabling people to have the happiest life possible with their dogs

Hi, I'm Emma
(BA HONS QTS)
Dog Listener

I am excited to be joining part of the Kate’s K9’s team as a dog listener. I am currently a secondary school teacher but have always had a love of animals, dogs in particular. I wanted to train and give back to all those who understand that a dog is more than a pet, but a member of the family.

Dog listening was a new concept to me and my 4 legged furry friend Tommy. Initially I didn’t understand why Tommy reacted the way he did, especially with me. I grew up with family dogs and had always had a good relationship with them, but Tommy seemed to constantly question me. The dog listening way works at developing your understanding and communication with your dog in a world they do not understand but in a way they do. When Tommy now questions me, I can show him it’s ok and he does not need to worry about being the leader and as a result my furry friend is now much calmer and happier.

I have completed both the foundation and advanced dog listening courses with Tony Knight and have courses on dog first aid and the emotional health and well-being of owners using the dog listening approach booked in.

I can’t wait to work with you and your dogs and help to explain why they act the way they do and how you can help them in this unfamiliar world, so that you can enjoy your time with your dog rather than worry about them.
